Mangaluru: To mark the second anniversary of the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation, a grand programme will be organised and five achievers will be felicitated at the Town Hall on February 5, at around 4 PM.
Foundation president Pradeep Alva told reporters at the Patrika Bhavan on Saturday, February 2, that the programme will be inaugurated by Mahesh Motors proprietor Padmavathi Jayaram Shekha and presided over by Shri Devi Group of Education Institution chairman A Sadananda Shetty.
He added that senior Yakshagana teacher Ashok Boloor, Yakshagana co-ordinator Gilbert Mendonca and retired Yakshagana artist Ramachandra Shetty will be felicitated and given a cash award of Rs 10,000 each. Two budding Yakshagana artists, Elluru Rakshitha Kadri and Amruth Kumar Puttige will also be felicitated and given a cash award of Rs 5,000 each, he informed.
About the charity works of the Foundation, Alva said that its Mangaluru unit has selected a government school from Jeppinamogaru, to conduct Yakshagana classes. “Over 20 students of the Jeppinamogaru school have been studying Yakshagana and the Patla foundation is looking after their education expenses. The Foundation has already built three houses at the cost of Rs 5 lakhs and handed them over to three Yakshagana artists, Devappa Gowda, Koragappa Naik and Purandara Shetty,” he said.
Foundation’s new unit to be inaugurated in the USA on June 29
The Foundation’s founder president Patla Sathish Shetty informed the media that the 34th unit of the Patla Foundation will be inaugurated in the USA on June 29. Meanwhile, artists from Mangaluru will visit the USA and perform Yakshagana at five different places in the USA from June 29 to August 20, he added.
Patla Foundation general secretary A Krishna Shetty Tharemaru, treasurer Ravi Shetty Ashokanagar and joint secretary K Gopinath Shetty were also present.
