Mangaluru: “Yakshagana artists are not mere artists, they are the teachers to the society,” opined chief priest of Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple Vedamurty Lakshminarayana Asranna, on Sunday, June 2.
He was addressing a gathering at ‘Yakshadhruva Patla Sambhrama – 2019’ organised by Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust at Adyar Garden. He said, “the folk art Yakshagana creates religious conscious among the people, thereby it upholds human values in society”.
Nitte Educational Trust Chancellor Dr. N Vinay Hegde presiding over the programme lauded the efforts of Patla Sathish Shetty, the founder of Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust for his charity works of helping the poor Yakshagana artistes. He wished success for the future endeavours of Patla Sathish Shetty.
A total of Rs 45 lakh has been disbursed to Yakshagana artists and their children in the form of scholarship, medical aid among others at the programme.
Meanwhile, a book ‘Yaksha Prabhakara’ on senior Yakshagana scholar and critic Dr M Prabhakar Joshi was released on the same occasion.
During the day-long programme, different Yakshagana programmes like ‘ Yaksha Saptha Swara – Nruthya Varsha Darshana’, ‘Natya Vaibhava’, ‘Thalamaddale’ among others were staged, which received tremendous response from the audience.
