‘Yoga for Humanity’ programme held in M’luru

Mangaluru: As part of the International Yoga Day 2022 celebrations, a yoga activity programme to promote ‘Yoga for Humanity’ was conducted on the riverside, in Sultan Bathery, Mangaluru on June 20, between 7.00 am to 8.30 am. Sultan Bathery is one of the 75 historical and iconic monumental locations identified by the Government as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. 

The programme was organised by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangalore, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of AYUSH Dakshina Kannada, Department of Tourism, Mangalore City Corporation. Members from the Mangalore Surf Club, Youth Sports Club, Wave Club and other local youth organisations were also actively involved in the organising team.

Over 100 participants demonstrated yoga on the monument.

The event began with an inaugural message delivered by Raghuveer Souterpete, District Youth Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru.

This was followed by an address by Manakya, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism who spoke about the importance of yoga. Dr. Sahana Rai, Department of AYUSH spoke about the need to inculcate yoga in everyday life and the ways to do it. The yoga session was conducted by Dr. Swetha Bhat and Dr. Aswathy Jain for the participants who practised yoga on top of the fort premises in Sultan Bathery. After this session, Anish from Wave Club performed yoga on a SUP board on the waters of River Gurupura.

The programme was coordinated by Mithun Kajunje, Mangalore Surf Club. Chetan, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism was also present. It was also attended by Geeta and Arun Prakash Rai from the NCC, Priyanka KVS, NYK Representative and members of Mangalore Surf Club and other youth clubs.

In another Yoga event, Mangaluru South MLA B. Vedavyas Kamath inaugurated the International Yoga Day celebrations held at Kudmal Rangarao Town Hall here in the City.

Yoga Guru Gopalakrishna Delampady demonstrated Yogasanas on the occasion.

Fisheries Development Corporation Chairman Nitin Kumar, Nomadic/Semi-Nomadic Development Board Chairman Ravindra Shetty, Mangaluru Mayor Premananda Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V., Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kumar, District Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Bhagwan Sonawane, Additional Deputy Commissioner Krishnamurthy, District AYUSH Officer Dr. Mohammad Iqbal, Nehru Yuva Kendra Raghuveer Sooterpete, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Deputy Director Pradeep D’Souza and others were present.

The event was attended by young men and women from various yoga organisations, including students of AYUSH College, yoga lovers and the public.
