Mangaluru: A group of young theatre artistes, who once performed on stage, have resorted to selling Christmas goodies under the name ‘Astitva’, in association with Konkani Kantaram, a music app.
The group is selling kuswar, Christmas goodies which are part of the cuisine of the Goan and Mangalorean Catholic community, to get through the tough times.
Some of these youngsters have lost their jobs, while the rest are students, and with the support of the public, they are managing to survive through difficult times brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At present, there are 15 active members who are part of team Astitva. In addition to selling kuswar, the team also stages a theatre production based on the Konkani textbook prescribed for second B.Com students of the Mangalore University.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Donna Sharon D’Souza, an active member said, “This Christmas, anyone planning to buy ‘kuswar‘ for themselves or their family and wants to spread some joy, please keep us in mind. We have a provision to buy in bulk or packs.”
Astitva also delivers their savouries to your doorstep.
Speaking further, Donna said, “We, as artistes, strive to do our best and also need to earn a living. We are selling all types of kuswar as per the people’s demands. We have something called ‘Kuswar Kotlo‘, which is a complete kuswar package worth Rs 500, Rs 1000 and Rs 2000.”
“Christmas is all about the joy of giving so, this festive season, make sure you are the reason for someone’s happiness,” Donna added.
