Udupi: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has said that considering environmental conservation and in a bid to contain the rising temperature, the air conditioners in all the government offices in Udupi will be switched off every Monday from now on.

Speaking to the media persons while travelling to her office in a public transport on Thursday, June 6, the DC said, “The theme of this year’s World Environment Day being ‘Air Pollution Control’, the District Administration has decided to turn off air conditioners in all the government offices of the district, every Monday. The decision has been conveyed to all the officials of the district during a meeting and they have agreed to it. This will help in saving electricity and also contribute to reducing the temperature levels.”

“Most of the officials in the district have decided to use public transport every Thursday, in a bid to control air pollution. Even the staff of private institutions, banks, corporate firms, etc., should take up this initiative and contribute in controlling the air pollution,” she added.

“The District Administration has made sure that the initiatives taken to conserve the environment do not impact any of the government duties,” said Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari, Deputy Director of Agriculture Department Chandrashekar Nayak and the DC office staff were present in the public transport with DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.
