Udupi: A week after PM Modi warned of action against violence in the name of cow protection, the incidents of cow vigilantes taking law into hands have not come down. A group of Bajrang Dal activitsts thrashed two men who were transporting cattle with permission.
The incident took place two days ago in Mundkur near Belman in Udupi. Sadhu Poojary had received permission from the panchayat and was transporting cattle in a tempo belonging to Rajesh Mendonsa on the day of the incident. When they were heading towards Mulky, 8 BD activists waylaid the tempo and thrashed the duo even after they showed the permission letter.
Sadhu Poojary was supposed to sell the cattle to Chandra Shetty from Mulky but the activists did not pay heed to their say and handed them over to Karkala Rural police after thrashing.
The police too have registered a case against the duo despite having permission.
The duo later went to Udupi SP office and urged to register complaint against the activists and also alleged political conspiracy behind the incident.
A local Shubhadh Rao said, “The police department should investigate the case and take back the false complaint filed against the duo. There should be action against those activists for taking law into their hands and that too without verifying the facts.”
