Udupi: The Bandh call given by various associations on Monday, February 13 against the collection of toll charges ahead of completing the entire works on the National  Highway has received a mixed response in the district with public modes of transport and shops seen going on with their business as usual in Udupi and surrounding areas.

The government buses, trucks and other vehicles were seen running on the NH 66 and other state roads in the morning up to 10 am as usual. However, buses plying on Udupi, Kundapur–Mangaluru routes have supported the bandh. As a precautionary measure, some of the schools and colleges remain closed.

Section 144 has been imposed in the area and a tight security is being maintained to prevent any untoward incidents. Several protestors too have been arrested in the past two days at Hejmady. Police personnel from neighboring districts have been deployed in various places of Udupi district.

Meanwhile, as per the latest report, violent protests are being held at Hejmady, near Padubidri and more such protests are being expected from the Bandh organisers and locals residing near the two toll gates in the district.
