Udupi: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district unit protested against anti-labour policies of the Union and State governments in front of DC office on Monday 08.
Speaking on the occasion CITU district president K Shankar alleged both the government follow Pro- Liberalisation policy’s which diversely affect the labours of our country. Labour rights are destructed from past 25 years.

Union government is planning to merge 44 labour laws into four statutes which shows the government is with the big investors from in and outside the country.

The unequal distribution of the wages among the contract labourers and the draft policy on Labour Code and Wages which facilitates the removal of the labourers at any time and deducts the salary paid are not a supportive moves from the govenment.

Government has also reduced the amount released for the Labour Welfare Board. Besides it has also reduced the budgetary allocations made for the Anganavadi, mid-day meal, rural health mission, MGNREGS among others.

Congress in the state failed to keep the promise declared through its manifesto. The labourers are not paid regularly. Dearness allowance for beedi workers is stagnant even after so many protests.

The ESI facility is also being snatched away from the labourers. Nearly 20 lakh vacancies in government offices are not being filled.

Both the centre and state government push the labourers to be bonded slaves.

They demanded that  the price hike of common commodities be stopped, the minimum wages should be Rs 15000, the rights of the labourers should be protected, ESI should be retained, the contract labor system should be stopped, and instead the policy of equal pay for equal work should be introduced. Land acquisition should favour farmers.
