Udupi: Dairy farmers should make use of modern technology then only it will be profitable said Raviraj Hegde president of Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd.
He was addressing the Marne-Kanarady Milk Producers Union members after distributing various facilities available at a programme held at Marne school premises.
“Union provides subsidy to buy various machines used for dairy farming. The union also spent Rs 4.50 crores to give additional price for milk as a support and encouragement to take up the profession. Per litre the union gives minimum Rs 24.37 but in other unions it is only Rs 19 to Rs 23”, he said.
Union president Karunakara Karkera presided over the function. Vice president Keshavamurthy Belpathre, assistant agriculture Shruthi, association administrative unit members Padmanabha Hegde, Devendra Nayak Marne, Harishchandra Nayak Kanarady, Charles D’souza Kodangala, Baby Jathanna Marne were present. Secretary Mamatha compered the programme.
During the programme, a scholarship of Rs 1000 was distributed to 31 children of the members of the Marne-Kanarady milk producer’s cooperative society.
“In the state more than 70 lakh litres of milk is being collected but the market demand is only 40 lakh litres. The remaining milk has been used to make milk powder and has been distributed to school children,” he said.
