Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary announced on August 3, that the polling for the Kaup Town Municipal Council, Udupi City Municipal Council, Kundapur Town Municipal Council, Karkala Town Municipal Council and Saligrama Town Panchayat will be held on Wednesday, August 29.
The Karnataka State Election Commission on August 2, had announced the timetable for polls to 105 local bodies across the state. Barring Shivamogga, Mysore and Tumkur district where the matter is pending before the High Court, the polls in other districts will be held on August 29. The polls to the remaining 100 local bodies will be held soon after completion of their term.
As per the timetable, the election notification will be issued on Friday, August 10; the last date for candidates to file the nominations is Friday, August 17; nominations inspection on Saturday, August 18 and the last date to withdraw the candidature is on Monday, August 20. If necessary, repoll will be held on Friday, August 31. Counting of votes will be on Saturday, September 1.
The Election Code of Conduct is already in force with the announcement of elections and it will continue till September 1, the DC informed.
The DC also said that None of the Above (NOTA) option on the ballot will be introduced for the first time for the polls to the local bodies. There are 1,55,336 voters across Udupi district, including 75,451 men and 79,884 women who will exercise their franchise.
The Election Commission has set the campaign expenditure limits per candidate at Rs 2 Lakh in Udupi City Municipal Council, Rs 1.50 Lakh for Kundapur and Karkala TMC and Rs 1 Lakh for Saligrama Town Panchayat, the DC added.
