Udupi : The district administration has completely failed to solve the various problems being faced by the citizens especially with regard to toll fee, sand mining, land rights and so on, said Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, President of Bharatiya Janatha Party, Udupi District Committee.

He was speaking to media persons at BJP office on Thursday, February 9 at a press meet. “The work on four lane road of National Highway 66 stretch between Surathkal and Kundapur has not yet been completed. It is still pending in Padubidri and other places as well. Service roads have not been constructed in many places to ensure smooth and safe travel by the residents. But yet the National Highway Authority of India and contractor Navayuga Company are planning to collect toll fee at Sasthan and Hejamady which is not fair”, he said.

He further said that BJP demanded the postponement of toll fee collection till the entire work was completed, which stood at 85 percent. “We have given information to Central MinisterNithin Gadkari through MP Shobha Karandleje with regard to the toll fee collection. It is the responsibility of the state government to acquire land for development of NH 66 without any further delay”, he added.

Kaup MLA Vinayakumar Sorake said that he would raise this issue in the Assembly sessions.

He accused the district in-charge minister f not taking any concrete measures to curb the sand mafia menace in the district.

Mattar Rathnakar Hegde warned that if the administration failed in effectively implementing a policy to procure sand in the non-CRZ areas, BJP would go ahead distributing the sand to poor freely by defying the norms.

“There are serious issues in distributing land rights to the poor people. Around 15000 applications are still pending. In this regard also BJP will fight against the government”, he warned.

“The state government should speed up the process of passing the amendment to support Kambala. BJP MLA from Karkala Sunil Kumar has raised this issue. Tamil Nadu government succeeded in getting Jallikattu back. Then why is our state government lagging behind”, he argued.

District BJP Spokesperson Katpady Shanker Poojary , Suresh Nayak, Sandhya Ramesh, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
