Udupi: As many as 11 more people were arrested by Brahmavara police in connection with the Praveen Poojary murder case on Friday, August 19.
The arrested have ben identified as Raghavendra Shetty (22) of Kucchur, Ganesh Mogaveera (25) of Kokkarne, Pradeep Achari (20) of Kokkarne, Dinesh Mogaveera (28) of Kokkarne, Sandeep Shetty (19) of Shivapura, Prakash Naik (36) of Hunsemakki, Sukumar Kulal (22) of Hebri, Sukesh Achar (32) of Kokkarne, Prakash Achar (30) of Kokkarne, Shantharam Naik (21) of Cherkady and Manjunath (20) of Cherkady. All of them were produced before the judge in Udupi on Friday night.
Seven of them, who were earlier arrested for the murder of Praveen Poojary have been booked under various sections of IPC. They have been booked under section 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), Section 147 (punishment for rioting) and Section 148 (punishment for rioting with a deadly weapon).
If convicted, the perpetrator shall be punished with imprisonment for a term that may extend to three years, or with a fine or both), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 302 (punishment for murder), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 427 (punishment for mischief causing damage to property) under the IPC.
It may be recalled that BJP worker Praveen Poojary (28) along with his friend Akshay Devadiga (20) were said to be transporting two cows in Praveen’s tempo late night on Wednesday late night. As many as 35 activists of VHP and Bajrang Dal who received the information, held-up the tempo in front of a school at Kenjur, Santhekatte and assaulted the duo with sharp weapons which killed Praveen. Akshay who was injured, was shifted to a hospital in Brahmavar.
