Udupi: The Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee, which has been holding awareness programmes across the district about the importance of voting, organised a press conference here at the Press Club, on Saturday, March 23.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that every last voter should cast their vote and that it is their job to make sure it happens because every vote is important.
“All efforts are being made to see that people with disabilities also turn out to vote,” she added.
Speaking during the conference, Sindhu B Rupesh, IAS, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, said that the SVEEP program is targeting young voters and has conducted several awareness programmes in various colleges across the district. “Campus ambassadors have been selected from the Electoral Literacy Clubs of the colleges. A cycle and motorcycle jatha has already been held in Kundapur to create voting awarenss. The gram panchayat officials will also make vehicle arrangements for voters living in remote areas, to reach the polling booths,” she added.
“Over 70,000 persons have participated in the mock polls held during the demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) along with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPAT),” she informed.
SVEEP Committee Taluk level Nodal official, Raju K and District Information official, Khader Shah were present during the conference.
