Udupi: A young man committed suicide on Wednesday, June 10, in his boat at the Malpe port after being unable to bear the huge losses in the fishing business. The young man has been identified as Bhagyaraj, 27, a resident of Pavanjigudde in Badanidiyoor.

Bhagyaraj was working as a writer for two fishing boats owned by his father. Some time ago, he had purchased a house and a fishing boat. However, due to losses in the fishing business during the lockdown and the famine in the fishing industry, he decided to commit suicide by hanging himself in a boat when it was anchored in a port in Malpe.

The youth was a good kabaddi player.

According to police sources, he left his home at about 11 pm on Tuesday and hung himself in the boat. A complaint has been lodged at the Malpe Station.
