Manipal: A major fire broke-out at the office of a travel agency that blazed away at the nearby refrigeration and AC repair shops and an ATM as well on June 22, in the city. The fire caused an estimated loss of Rs 15 lakhs.
According to the reports, a short circuit took place at Suman Travels, however as help did not arrive the blazing flames soon spread to the other adjacent shops. Among the four shops, the refrigeration and AC repair shops, owned by Sathish, suffered the most damage as electronic equipment got charred.
The building is owned by Ravindra Pai, he alleged that the fire spread and caused so much damage as the fire tenders arrived an hour late.
However, the Udupi fire service said that the intimation about the fire was not adequate and that the owners did not switch off the electrical supply immediately, because of which the fire spread.
Meanwhile, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj arrived at spot and took stock of the situation.
