Karkala: Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai ruled out the implementation of Kasturi Rangan panel recommendations and Tiger Project by the state government against the wishes of its people.
Speaking on the occasion of 63rd Wildlife Programme, organized at town’s galaxy multipurpose auditorium, Rai said the state was willing to confront the Centre to protect the interest of the people.
Previous state regime had recommended ‘Tiger Project’ and final announcement by the Centre on Kasturi Rangan Panel recommendation for its implementation is pending. The centre has already enforced Tiger Project against the wishes of the people.
However, in the changed scenario after Congress led Siddaramaiah government came to power, the cabinet has taken a decision not to implement any project detrimental to the interests of the people of the state, he said.
If the Centre goes ahead with the implementation of the project, the state will respond in an appropriate manner, Rai said warning Centre of state’s willingness to confront it.
State has over 406 tigers in its territory and has over 6000 animals including leopards, elephants and other wild animals. State is also in the forefront of hosting highest number of programs related to environmental and wildlife conservation, claimed Rai.
