Udupi: “It is good that a great leader like Jayaprakash Hegde joined Bharatiya Janata Party today which will further strengthen the party. A great leader like him is needed in the party to serve the people better,” said Ramesh Chanappa Jigajinagi, Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India.
Speaking to media persons in Udupi on Wednesday, March 8, he said that the Swach Bharath Abhiyan has been successful in the country due to the mass support. “Now, the people are taking initiatives to maintain clean surroundings. It is a completely apolitical activity. We should be able to fulfil Mahatma Gandhiji’s dream of Swach Bharath. All representatives of the people, NGOs, students and all sections of people are supporting the Swach Bharath initiative of the central government”, he stated.
Regarding drinking water shortage in the Udupi district as well as in the state, he said that as far as the state was concerned since ten years there has been an acute shortage of water especially in northern part of Karnataka. “This year the problem has entered coastal Karnataka too due to scanty rainfall. It will be the joint responsibility of both state and central government to solve the drinking water problem”, he added.
