K Jayaprakash Hegde, the Congress candidate from the Udupi-Chikmagaluru constituency, has offered clarification regarding recent media reports alleging derogatory statements about his BJP rival Kota Srinivas Poojary’s language proficiency.

Statement by Jayaprakash Hegde:

Hegde clarified that during a recent event in Brahmavar, he highlighted the importance of English and Hindi proficiency for MPs to communicate effectively with government officials. He emphasized that MPs can still speak in Kannada in the Lok Sabha, as translators are available. Hegde stated that his remarks were misconstrued by certain media outlets, leading to the creation of derogatory connotations.

Appeal for Clarity:

Asserting that he did not mention anyone specifically while discussing language proficiency, Hegde urged the public to prevent the distortion of speakers’ statements, which could incite discord in society.

Respect for Opponents:

Hegde emphasized his respect for opponents and clarified that his statements were based on his experience as a former Parliamentarian, with no intention to offend. He reiterated his commitment to serving the people as their representative, believing it to be the most effective strategy during elections.
