Hegde clarified that during a recent event in Brahmavar, he highlighted the importance of English and Hindi proficiency for MPs to communicate effectively with government officials. He emphasized that MPs can still speak in Kannada in the Lok Sabha, as translators are available. Hegde stated that his remarks were misconstrued by certain media outlets, leading to the creation of derogatory connotations.

Asserting that he did not mention anyone specifically while discussing language proficiency, Hegde urged the public to prevent the distortion of speakers’ statements, which could incite discord in society.
