Manipal: A consumer court has ordered an outlet of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) operating in Manipal to pay Rs 10,000 plus legal costs for serving stale food to a customer which gave him health problems.
According to sources, Kishen Hegde purchased chicken dish from Manipal on December 23, 2014. He filed a complaint against the outlet alleging that he was served stale food and he suffered from health problems.
Udupi District Consumers Grievances Redressal Forum, after conducting hearings in the case, found the outlet guilty and ordered them to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to Hegde, Rs 4,000 for court expenses and also pay the medical expenses of Hegde.
The Consumer Court, after conducting hearings in the case, found that the outlet was guilty and ordered that it pay the penalty. Accordingly, KFC was ordered that it paid 14,000, of which Rs 4,000 was for court expenses and Rs 10,000 as compensation. The outlet has also been ordered to pay the medical expenses of the complainant.
