Labour Dept Rescues 3 Child Labourers in Udupi Officials in an Operation

Udupi : Acting on a public complaint regarding child labour employed at a gold shop near Chittaranjan Circle, a collaborative operation was conducted by various authorities on Tuesday, February 8.

Three child labourers, engaged in industrial gold polishing, were rescued and relocated to a children’s orphanage under the directives of the child welfare committee.

The joint effort involved participation from the project director of the district child labour project association of the labour department, Amrata, labour inspector Sanjay, child protection unit staff Mahesh and Yogeesh, as well as child helpline staff Jyoti and Prakash, alongside city police and others.

The public has been urged to report any instances of child labour by contacting the helpline. Immediate action can be taken by dialing Makkala Sahayavani (child helpline) at 1098 or the police department helpline at 112 to ensure the protection of children.

Employing minors under the age of 18 in hazardous industries is a punishable offence. Offenders may face imprisonment ranging from six months to two years, along with fines ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000, without the need for a warrant.
