Udupi: Udupi’s campaign against drug addiction should be a model for the nation to emulate, opined the junior pontiff of the Udupi Adamaru Matt Shri Ishapriya Theertha on Saturday, August 25.
He was addressing the gathering after blessing the “Selfie with Signature Campaign” against drug abuse, jointly organised by the Udupi district police department, Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association and the Press Club at the Canara Mall in Manipal.
Bishop of Udupi Diocese Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo said, “The momentary happiness from the drugs ruins an entire life. Youth start indulging in drug abuse due to various reasons-right from peer pressure to more serious familial issues. By enslaving the mind, drug addiction breaks up relationships. Youth should take the vow to shun drugs and embrace life.”
The cleric of the Malpe Sayyadina Aboobakkar Siddiki Jamiya Mosque, Maulana Imranullah Khan Mansouri said that everyone should work towards reintegrating addicts back into the society.
Award-winning actor Vijay Mayya, District Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi, ASP Kumar Chandra, Manager of Canara Mall Prakash, Managing Trustee Joel Soans and President of the District Working Journalists’ Association Ganesh Prasad were also present.
