Manipal: Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal celebrated World Environment Day at the campus here on Tuesday. Pro-Chancellor, Dr H.S. Ballal, flagged off an awareness rally by the students of Academy of General Education and Dr TMA Pai Foundation from the University building. This was followed by planting of saplings at the College of Nursing and a formal programme at Dr TMA Pai auditorium.
Hundreds of students took part in the day’s programmes, which were designed to help them understand the importance of a good clean environment and everything that matters to live in a world without pollution. Every year, one student is chosen to speak on the occasion and today Sanjana from TA Pai English Medium School delivered the message to the audience.
“Today, the air we breathe, water we drink, soil we grow crops are all adversely affected by various types of pollution,” Sanjana, the class 9 student said. “We are responsible for polluting everything necessary for us. Man has been exploiting the Earth and the natural resources within it for his greedy needs. So we are left with global warming, lesser amount of rains and climatic conditions that are not conducive to our lives,” she added. She urged everyone to contribute in protection of the environment.
Registrar MAHE, Dr Narayan Sabhahit welcomed the gathering and Dean Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Dr Pragna Rao delivered the Environment Day message. Director Student Affairs, Dr Geetha M gave the vote of thanks. Mr Jai Vittal Estate officer coordinated the event. Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Poornima Baliga was present.
