Karkala: A Malekudiya youth staged a stir on Tuesday against the forest officials, outside Karkala Wildlife office demanding compensation for his land.
Praveen Gowda(23), son of Mahabala Gowda from Kanyalu belonging to Malekudiya community alleged that his father had given away his land to the government, but when it came to giving compensation for the land, the officials have been harassing them.
The forest department wanted to acquire a particular land. Out of six people who had occupied the land, four including Gowda family agreed to give the land. Praveen alleges that only his family was being targeted by the forest officials due to some vengeance. He has warned to hold indefinite strike if they failed to compensate.
Meanwhile, former MLA Gopala Bhandary visited the spot and convinced him to end the protest. He also assured to provide compensation after discussing with forest minister. Following assurance by the MLA Gopala Bhandary, Praveen ended protest.
