Manipal: Manipal University on Tuesday mourned the death of People’s President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who died in Shillong on Monday. Classes were suspended as a mark of respect for the former President.
A condolence meeting was held in the Senate Hall of the Manipal Edu building. Pro Chancellor, Dr H.S.Ballal, Vice Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat, Registrar Dr G.K.Prabhu, heads of institutions and the officials of the University were present.
After maintaining two-minute silence as a mark respect to the former president, Dr Ballal briefly spoke about Dr Kalam’s visits to the University in 2003 and 2014. “India has lost a gem of a person, who had a dream for the country, a dream to see India a developed nation by 2020 through an action plan which he advocated strongly,” he said.
