Udupi: CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, has been awarded the prestigious NABH certification by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), New Delhi. The certification follows a stringent quality appraisal by the certifying institution.

The hospital received the certificate on Nov. 16, 2022, said Dr Sushil Jathanna, Director of the hospital, in a media release. The NABH certification is subject to renewal every two years, and the hospital is obligated to follow the rigorous guidelines of the certifying body to maintain high-quality standards.

NABH certification is a new feather in the cap of CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, which is presently celebrating its centenary year. It is one of the oldest hospitals in coastal Karnataka, having been founded in 1923 by Dr Eva Lombard, a young Swiss missionary doctor. Beginning with just six beds, the hospital at present has a capacity of 120 beds with all major specialities and facilities like casualty, intensive care unit, operation theatre, labour theatre, dialysis unit, general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesia, nephrology, cardiology, ENT, dental, orthopaedics, Ayurveda and dermatology. With over one lakh square feet of built-up area, the hospital is served by a team of 170 staff, including dedicated doctors, trained nurses, and paramedical workers.

“I am delighted that CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, has secured NABH certification. This is a great achievement for us but an even greater achievement for patients, as it assures them of quality service when they enter the hospital. I am grateful to all the staff who have worked tirelessly to achieve this. We will continue to monitor the safety standards and maintain the high standard of quality service,” Dr Sushil Jathanna said.

The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) is an autonomous body functioning under the Quality Council of India. It has been set up to provide reliable third-party assessment of quality processes in hospitals covering all parameters like healthcare protocols and quality of care, clinical and non-clinical infrastructure, training and staff welfare, organisation leadership, patient safety and patient satisfaction. Certification by the NABH stimulates continuous learning and improvement, a good working environment, leadership and the smooth functioning of clinical processes. Patients benefit the most from accreditation because it results in high-quality care and patient safety.
