Udupi: Bhaskar Upadhyaya, an alumnus of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), has excelled in film-making and has made a mark in only two years since quitting his IT job.

Tez, an Assamese short film, marking Upadhyaya’s debut, has been selected for the 6th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival and the 16th International Film Festival, Jaipur. A press release issued by Manipal University said that Tez would be exhibited in the ‘Short Film Corner’ Section of the 69th Cannes International Film Festival on May 15, 2016.

Tez tells the tale of a father abandoning his new-born girl child as he had hoped for a boy. However, the world turns topsy-turvy for the father when realization dawns on him.

Upadhyaya was a Computer Science student at MIT in the 2008-12 batch and worked at Honeywell first and then Oracle in Bengaluru.

Being the founder of Eastern Green Pictures and finding recognition, he is working on another Assamese feature film, Ulka.

Upadhyaya believes that audio-visual is a very strong medium to convey ideas to the masses.
