Moral policing: 5 HJV workers arrested in Karkala

Karkala: On Sunday, the Karkala police arrested five members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike for assaulting doctors who were passing by the city. The incident took place on July 29 when a group of doctors, consisting of four male doctors and two female professors from the same college but from different communities were traveling from Mangalore to Shringeri via the Kuntalpadi route of Karkala.

As they entered the SK border, the doctors noticed that they were being followed by a car. Shortly after, they were stopped by a group of men who asked for their identity and subjected them to verbal harassment. Upon being informed about the incident, DCP Aravind Kalladka, along with Police Circle Inspector Nagaraj and City Magistrate Sandeep Shetty, promptly arrested the youths.

The accused have been identified as Santhosh Nandalike (29), Karthik Poojary (23), Sunil Moolya (28), Sandeep Poojary (30), and Sujith Safaliga (28).
