Padubidri: Nine-yr-old flash flood victim’s body found

Udupi: Nearly 16 hours after being washed away in the flash floods at Padubidri, the body of a nine-year-old girl was traced by a rescue team some 100 meters from the spot of the incident on May 30.

The victim, Nidhi Acharya is a Padubidri resident and a student of Ganapathy primary school. She and her 12-year-old sister, Nisha were cycling back home after school hours when they both got washed away while crossing a small bridge at Padebettu, Patla in Padubidri here on May 29.

Nisha was lucky enough to have been rescued due to the timely action of locals but Nidhi went missing. Locals and the fire personnel undertook a search operation but were not able to trace her. On Wednesday, Nidhi’s body was found by members of a rescue team, some 100 meters from the incident spot.

A case has been registered in Padubidri police station.
