Udupi: Well, they say two vehicles cannot have the same registration numbers, but in Udupi, a Mahindra Scorpio SUV is said to be sharing the same number as a Mahindra Scorpio SUV that is in use in state capital – Bengaluru.
A white colored Scorpio with the registration number KA-04 MG7650 with RC book mentioning the owner’s name as Ramakrishna. E, S/o Ethirajulu Naidu, door no.12, 1st Main, 1st stage Oklipuram, Bangalore – 560021 wef 21/01/16 is in use in Bengaluru.  The vehicle, according to the owner’s records is manufactured in 2009 and the vehicle was registered on 20-11-2009. RC book form 23 A mentions the Chassis no. as MA1TA2HAN92L27720 and Engine no., as HC94K44382 and the model is Mahindra Scorpio VLX CRED.

However, some locals from Kaup area have claimed that the same model and make of vehicle, with the same color and same registration number is also found in Kaup near Udupi as well.

With the help of RTO in Mangaluru, when Yesvanthapur Regional Transport Officer Omkareshwari was contacted on Monday and asked about two such vehicles having the same registration number, she confirmed that the owner of  the SUV registered in Bengaluru (KA-04 MG7650) had a month ago complained about another vehicle being used in Udupi with the same registration number. He said that he discovered about the same when he checked the vehicle search of Transport Department.

“On checking our records, it was confirmed that the owner is Ramakrishna. E, S/o Ethirajulu Naidu, door  no.12, 1st Main, 1st stage Oklipuram, Bangalore and vehicle was registered in Bangalore. We issued the ‘B’ extract to Ramakrishna and asked him to take it up with the police,” said Omkareshwari.

But according to the “Vehicle search of Government of Karnataka” done by this reporter, KA-04 MG7650 mentions the owner’s name as Mohammed Fakeer, S/o.Moidin Saheb. Without any address mentioned, the vehicle has been registered on 18.11.2007 and the owner serial no is 5. The chassis no – MA1TA2HAN92127720 and the Engine no.HC94K44382, model is Scorpio 2.6 CRDE SLX. The present RTO is RTO, Udupi and RC/Fitness Validity is 17.11.2022.

When RTO, Udupi was contacted, he said that he has received an oral complaint from some public and if given in writing, action would be taken.

He said that both the vehicles would be seized if found to exist with the same registration number.

However, when asked as to why intra-department communication was not done even after oral complaints were received, he said that the owners of the vehicle would have to take up the matter on their own.

Udupi SP Annamalai, speaking to Newskarnataka.com said that he too had received a complaint with regard to the same from a responsible citizen and his inspector is acting on it.

“If the information is found to be correct then both the vehicles will be seized and verified and further action will follow,” he said.

A responsible citizen, who has taken the trouble of tracking the original owner in Bengaluru, is also ready to assist the police if they are willing to track the vehicle with duplicate registration.

If the duplicate vehicle owner tends to execute a crime then the real owner will land in soup, which is now a major cause of worry to the real owner.
