Udupi: Located in the Udupi District, Manipal is one of the hi-tech towns. Manipal has gradually grown into a hub of advanced technologies and research centres. It is a city that is attracting the country’s indigenous people educationally, and offers a lot of opportunities for the industry sector as well.
In such a City, the trend of those who intend to make a profit by selling their land and building to convert them into multi-floors buildings and living in flats by selling a small piece of land is growing rapidly. In the midst of such a development, Nityananda Nayak Narasinge, on the contrary, has turned his ten-acre land green on his own. He has done farming without selling his land worth crores of rupees and thus has surprised everyone.
Nityananda Nayak Narasinge is working as the Chief Executive of Sri Durga Parameshwari Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Parkala in Udupi. Growing green grain vegetables on his ten acres of land is his great achievement. With the help of Hitachi, JCB and a tractor, he has removed the saplings and weeds that had grown on the land lying barren for the last 15 years and levelled the land to make it cultivable.
He started farming on the advice of close friends and experts. Though he initially grew a few vegetables practically and as a result, he did not give up on his efforts and is now a successful farmer. After a year-and-a-half of continuous efforts, he has grown seasonal vegetables along with other vegetables such as bitter gourd, pepper, radish, sweet potato etc.
Karunakar Sullia, a close friend of Nayak, is advising him to procure hybrid seeds from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and sow them and thus harvest a good crop. In the farm land, trees like Acacia, and Karmar have been planted and a J-wire is tied to the straight trees. Further a slab has been placed and bitter gourd vines have been provided support. Bhoomi Mitra, and Go Kripa manure are used for the garden and no harmful manure is being used.

Matti Gulla, a form of brinjal yield is upto 180 to 200 kgs, and tubers 800 to 850 kgs, and bottle guard 48 to 700 kgs, which is successfully sold.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Nityananda Nayak said, “There is a huge difference between the veggies that we grow and the veggies available in the market. Our vegetables is of normal size, weighs less and it takes 8 to 9 bitter gourds to make a kg. Our veggies are fresh too. Talking about the profit, we make profit if we have grown that vegetable when a good price is fixed in the market. Sometimes the crop is good but the market rate is low,” observes Nayak.
In the garden of Nayak, natural farming is yielding good and fresh vegetables.
