Udupi: In light of the rising number of Covid cases, MLA Raghupati Bhat has announced that the Paryaya Mahotsava shall be a simple affair focusing mainly on traditional rituals.

He informed that Sri Vidyasagarateertha Shripad of the Krishnapura Matha will receive the Krishna Puja Paryaya Deekshe on January 18 during the 251st biennial Paryaya Mahotsava. He also said that a huge crowd of devotees and spectators will not be allowed during any of the events.

“The festivities and activities will be broadcast live on television,” he said.

On January 10, the seer will arrive in town (Pura Pravesha). Due to the weekend curfew, the ‘Hore Kanike’ (offerings) scheduled for January 15 and 16 have been cancelled. He said that a different day had been chosen for the event.

Instead of the Rathabeedi, the Abhivandana ceremony for Paryaya Adamaru seer would be held at the Rajangana under the chairmanship of Krishnapura seer (Car street).

From January 10 to 17, cultural programmes will be held every evening at the Rathbeedi Vedike, with the exception of January 15 and 16 due to the curfew, he added.
