Karkala: The Karkala unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad has called off their bandh on November 14, after the police denied them permission. According to sources, confusion among the VHP members whether or not to observe bundh, also resulted in withdrawing the proposed bandh.
VHP President Suprasad Shetty issued a media statement about the same. It was earlier reported that the VHP had called for the bandh in protest against the turn of events that took place in the last few days in various parts of the state including Dakshina Kannada.
On Friday, when the bandh was successful in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, no bandh was observed in Karkala. However, by noon, a few saffron outfit activists gathered in front of the Ananthasayana temple. By the time they could start shouting slogans, the alert police rushed to the spot and prevented them from doing so.
