Udupi: It was the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution of India brought about by the then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi that was responsible for the strengthening of the Panchayat Raj system in the country. These amendments support women’s empowerment and have provided reservations for them in the Panchayat Raj system, said Dinesh Gundu Rao, Working President of KPCC.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Panchayat Raj Amendments Golden Celebrations, Panchayat Raj and Cooperatives Convention at the Town Hall, Ajjarkad here on February 17. He stated that Amith Shah was a great liar and brought down the standard of politics. “What is the role of the BJP and the RSS in the country’s freedom struggle? BJP or RSS did not participate in the freedom struggle. The Congress party was responsible for getting Independence”, he added.
“There is a feeling of suffocation in the country. There have been problems even in the Supreme Court. Many Congress party leaders are being targetted. The CBI, ED and IT have become BJP’s possessions”, he alleged.
“The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah has given the best governance in the state and one of the best model states in the country. The BJP cannot digest the developments being done by the Congress government. We are among the top three in bringing in investments. There is no serious allegation against the state government”, he said.
“Siddaramaiah presented the budget of his current tenure with various projects in Karnataka. There are various projects for women, farmers, girl students and others. In 2013 the national growth rate was 8.5 percent and presently it has decreased to 6.7 percent”, Rao said.
