Santosh K Patil dies by suicide in Udupi lodge

Udupi: A contractor who had accused Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) K. S. Eshwarappa has ended his life in a lodge near KSRTC Bus Stand here on Tuesday April 12. He also wrote a suicide note in which he has named Eshwarappa being responsible for him taking this extreme step.

According to sources, Santosh K. Patil was found dead in room number 207 of Shambhavi Lodge opposite the KSRTC bus stand. According to sources, he had consumed poison and ended his life.

He had come to Udupi with two of his friends who took a room adjacent to Santosh’s. They said that Patil had told them that they will go on a tour but they had no idea that he would take this extreme step.

Patil had gone missing from his Belagavi home. On the morning of Tuesday, his phone was found within the City limits of Udupi.

He had issued a death note to the media. He had blamed Minister Eshwarappa for his death in his death note.

The incident is being investigated further by Udupi City Police. ASP Siddalingappa and SP Vishnuvardhan also paid a visit to the site. Manipal forensic experts have been sent to the crime scene. According to sources, Udupi police would take the services of fingerprint experts.

Patil who is a contractor and a BJP leader had accused K. S. Eshwarappa of corruption. Patil had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he had spent Rs. 4 Crore on constructing roads in his village based on Eshwarappa’s oral instructions. He accused Eshwarappa of lying, corruption and irregularities, and requested PM Modi to urge him to settle his bills.

Following this, Eshwarappa filed a defamation case against Patil for attempting to defame him
