SCDCC Bank number one in State: Co-op Minister Somashekar

Udupi: “SCDCC Bank is number one in the State and its functioning is a model for other banks,” said Co-operation Minister S. T. Somashekhar.

He was speaking after inaugurating SCDCC Bank’s 110th Branch at Uppunda at Byndoor here in the District and the Sadhana Sammelana of Navodaya Self Help Groups.

“Some of the members who had taken loans from co-operative banks during Covid died. A meeting was held at the ap6ex Bank in this regard and a decision was taken to help the families of the deceased. SCDCC Bank Chairman M. N. Rajendra Kumar had announced to pay Rs. 1 lakh each to such families. The cheque was handed over to the families of the deceased on this occasion. A request has already been made to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to bring all co-operative societies under one software and he has assured to work in this regard within a year, he said.

“The sons of the soil usually don’t ask for Agriculture portfolio, they ask for Public Works Department portfolio or some other portfolio. But being a farmer, B.C. Patil has been working tirelessly for the development agriculture sector in the State after demanding for the agriculture portfolio. Due to his hardwork, the Agriculture Department of the State is on the path of development,” he said.

Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said, “SCDCC Bank has been providing loan facility to several factories in North Karnataka region. Nirani Group too was given Rs. 12 Crore 25 years ago. The loan was given by Rajendra Kumar, which has given me the opportunity to generate work for 75,000 people and grow successful business. It is because of the encouragement of Rajendra Kumar that my company has become the second largest producer of sugar in the country,” he said.

Agriculture Minister B. C. Patil inaugurated a new self-help group formed in Bijur.

Addressing the gathering, B. C. Patil said that Dr. M. N. Rajendra Kumar is giving loans to women through Navodaya Self-Help Groups and encouraging them to lead a self-reliant life. Rajendra Kumar is doing what the governments have to do today. I congratulate him for this,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, SCDCC Bank Chairman Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar said, “4000 accounts were opened on the day of the inauguration of the Uppunda branch. For this I am grateful to the customers here. No one died by suicide in Dakshina Kannada District due to financial crisis as they were given timely loan. Similarly, 100 per cent of the loan is being repaid. Thus, the Bank’s success is not an achievement of mine alone, it’s made possible by all our teamwork.”

On the occasion, a cheque as a financial assistance was handed over to the families of the members of Navodaya Self-Help Group who died of Covid-19. Loan facility was distributed to women self-help groups. The Chaitanya Insurance cheque of the deceased members was distributed to the family members. The vehicle loan letter was issued from the new branch of Uppunda.

Jayaprakash Hegde, Byndoor MLA M. Sukumar Shetty, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, former MLA Gopal Poojari, Udupi District Co-operative Union President B. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Co-operative Fish Marketing Federation President Yashpal Suvarna, Khambadakone Farmers’ Service Co-operative Society President S. Prakashchandra Shetty, Uppunda Lakshmi Kharvi, Hiriyanna Shetty, SCDCC Bank Vice President Vinay Kumar Soorinje, Chief Executive Officer Ravindra B., Bank Director Belapu Deviprasad Shetty and others were present.
