Udupi: With the BJP and the Congress members creating a commotion on Monday, the district Deputy commissioner has slammed section 144 in Udupi CMC limits.
The prohibitory order will be in place from 11 am on Monday to 6 pm on Tuesday.
The Congress and several other organisations had called for a nation-wide bundh on Monday opposing the fuel price hike. Likewise, in Udupi too, the bundh was followed, but it evoked a mixed response. When Congress members tried to forcefully shut the shops, it caused commotion between the BJP and the Congress members leading to violence.
Taking note of this incident and also the possibilities of the bundh being misused to settle political scores, the DC has imposed the order.
No protest rally, processions, sloganeering, carrying arms and weapons etc will be allowed. The prohibitory order is not applicable to government programmes.
