Udupi: “I strongly condemn HD Revanna’s comments on Ambarish’s wife Sumalatha, and the minister should seek apology from Sumalatha,” said senior BJP leader, Shobha Karandlaje.
Addressing a press meet at Karthik Hotel, Ambalpady junction here on Friday, March 8, Shobha Karandlaje said that Revanna’s comment on Sumalatha is condemnable, and she didn’t expected such cheap statements by the senior JD(S) leader.
“It’s not even been a month since her husband died and instead of grieving, she is already displaying political ambitions and is saying she wants to contest elections. See what level they have stooped to,” HD Revanna, had commented while speaking to reporters in New Delhi.
Speaking about Sumalatha in the press meet, Shobha said “Currently, she (Sumalatha) is with the Congress party. If she likes to join BJP, we will welcome her into the party. If she will contest independently, BJP will support her during election”.
She said that it has been around four and a half years since she had been elected in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a record margin due to the people’s valuable votes. “After the delimitation of the constituencies in the year 2008, I am having the distinction of being the first woman parliamentarian to the newly carved out Udupi-Chickmagaluru constituency with all your blessings,” Shobha added.
“I take great pleasure in sharing the details regarding the efforts put in, results achieved and figures of various developmental programmes undertaken while discharging my duties as parliamentarian. Udupi-Chickmagalauru Lok Sabha constituency is a unique constituency as it comprises of three different topographies of coastal, malnad and the plains. It is also one of the biggest Lok Sabha constituency. I am satisfied with the successful implementation of the various programmes in my constituency initiated by our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upliftment and development of the citizens,” said Shoba.
Local MLA Raghupathy Bhat, Opposition leader in legislative council Kota Srinivas Poojary, Geethanjali Suvarna, ZP member, Prabhakar Poojary, BJP City Block President and Municipal Councilor, Sandhya Ramesh, Udaykumar Shetty, former district BJP president and other leaders were present.
