Train robbery case: Udupi police arrest seven

Udupi : The District Police succeeded in cracking a train robbery case where in the burglars had fled with 4.11 kg gold valuing Rs 1,28,32,316 on the Thiruvanthapuram bound Mumbai train near Padubidri on September 17, 2017. Seven persons hailing from various parts of the country have been nabbed.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Sanjeev M Patil told media that Rajendra Singh, an executive of Mumbai-based gold making firm named G M Gold Pvt Ltd travelling in the sleeper class S – 7 in Netravathi Express train on September 17 was robbed of his suitcase containing gold bangles by the robbers at gunpoint near Surathkal railway station. Singh even sustained physical injuries in the incident.

The arrested are Mithun Vaniyan alias Bairav Singh Rana, Rohit Shetty (31) from Panvel of Maharastra who are residing in Madikeri, Karnataka, Pintu Arjun Chowdary from Lalpur, Bihar, Yogishwar Singh alias Yogish (24) of Chithrakot, Rajasthan, Mukhtar Ibrahim (24) of Udum, Kasargod, Riyaz K (30) of Chemmanad, Kasargod, P. K. Murugan (49) of Kuttoor, Thrissur and Prabhulal Gurjar (30) from Udaypur, Rajasthan.

The SP said that Mithun Vaniyan and Pintu Arjun were arrested near Ullal Railway Station on 21 November, Mukthar Ibrahim and Riyaz were taken into custody at Pumpwell in Mangaluru on November 17. Yogishwar and Prabhulal were taken into custody in Girgaon, Mumbai on December 3 and great criminal Murugan was arrested from Thrissur on November 23.

Along with the huge gold ornaments one country revolver, 2 live bullets, one gold melting machine and 6 mobiles phones have been confiscated from the seven accused. Meanwhile, a Hyundai car purchased by Yogishwar has also been confiscated, the SP said.

Under the guidance of IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar, the police team headed by SP Sanjeev Patil and Kumarachandra ASP, Rishikesh Sonavane DySP Karkala division, V.S. Halamurthy Rao CPI Kaup, Sathish M P, PSI, Padubidri Police Station, and police constables Sudhakar, Rajesh, Praveen Kumar, Narayana, Umesh were part of the investigation. The police officials of Mumbai, Rajasthan, Kerala and Bihar helped in solving the robbery case in train.

IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar announced a reward of Rs one lac to the police team who solved the case. Kumarachandra ASP, Rirshikesh Nimbalkar and Sathish M P were present during the press meet.
