Udupi: Absconding murder convict arrested in District

Udupi: A murder and rape convict who had escaped from a Kerala prison was arrested in the District, said the police.

Rajesh (39), a resident of the Neyyattinkara taluk in the Thiruvananthapuram district, escaped from custody on December 12, 2020.

Rajesh was convicted in 2013 of murdering and raping a young girl in 2012. He was sentenced to death, but his sentence was eventually reduced to life imprisonment.

According to Udupi police, an operation was initiated after receiving credible information that the prisoner resided in the District. The police reported that Rajesh was taken into custody in Nailady, Brahmavara Taluk.

He was taken into custody by Kerala Police and produced before the Kundapur court. As per the court’s order, he has already been taken to Kerala.

District Superintendent of Police Hackay Akshay Machindra commended the police team for their work.
