Udupi: Police arrested a person in a 7-year-old POCSO accused case, who has been absconding for over two years. The accused was arrested in Gadikot in Uttarakhand’s Banbasa Police Station.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jitendra Sharki (26), a resident of Nepal.
Sharki was accused in a POCSO case that was registered with the Manipal Police Station. He had been absconding for two years without appearing in court. Three attachment warrants and about 16 other warrants were issued for his arrest.
A special team was formed under the leadership of Udupi SP Hakay Akshay Machhindra to trace him. A week-long operation along the Indo-Nepal border was carried out as instructed by Manipal PSI Abdul Khader, Probationary PSI Nidhi BN, HC Thomson, and staffer Dinesh.
He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
