Udupi: A Vishnu Temple of the Hoysala period at Manebettu here has remained non-existent and needs to be renovated.
The Temple, believed to belong to the 12th Century, has a spherical tower with a lock system made of stone. There is enough space for a man to put a round inside and it also houses a circular well. There is an enclosure wall around the Temple which has an old-fashioned yard-sized black mural.
Locals say it may have been around 45 years since the pooja has not been held.
At present, the locals light lamps daily. But no pooja or religious ceremony is taking place.
Social Activist Ganesh Raj Saralebettu says that apart from preserving this ancient Temple, there is also a need to conduct a study.
