Udupi: The Udupi City Municipal Council presented a surplus budget of Rs. 1.50 Crore for the financial year 2017-18. CMC Chairperson Meenakshi Bannanje presented the budget during the Council’s general meeting on Monday, January 30.
The total revenue of CMC stood at over Rs 100.72 Crore and the total expenditure at Rs 99.22 Crore. The budget includes the central and state government funds and a major portion reserved for various developmental works and providing better facilities to the city.
She placed various projects and developmental works for the year 2016–17. For the welfare of scheduled castes Rs 167 Lakh; for the economically challenged Rs 37 Lakh and for the disabled Rs 16 Lakh. Under the project of Quality Council of India of the central government, Udupi City was declared Swatch Bharat City and central government had provided a fund of Rs 8.44 Lakh for achieving the clean city tag. The tender process is been under way for the public toilets at Santhekatte and Manipal.
In order to the overcome water shortage in the city, the tube wells in Indrali, Ananthnagar, Mannapalla, and Duggipadav were renovated. A hi-tech fish market at PPC Road was established spending Rs 2.30 Crore.
This budget is giving importance to the greenery and beautification of the city. New parking places would be developed in various places in the city. For the development of sports Rs 3 Lakh has allotted.
In order to increase the revenue of the CMC, commercial buildings will be constructed at Manipal, Mission Compound, near Diana Talkies, Beedinagudde, Nittur and Malpe. The tender for commercial building at Santhekatte is already completed and construction will begin shortly.
An amount of Rs 1.50 Crore has been allotted for the establishment of municipal weekly market at Santhekatte near Adishakti Temple.
