Udupi: With a certain section of the Congress raising questions over the candidature and capabilities of Prathapchandra, sitting MLC and Congress candidate for upcoming MLC polls, several Congress leaders came together to express their support for Shetty.
Addressing a news conference in Udupi on Tuesday, Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that while Shetty will be their candidate, all efforts will be made to convince the rebel candidates to withdraw their candidature and work for the party.
“Shetty has been with the Congress party for over 35 years and he has performed exceptionally well in his capacity The Congress party has fielded most of the incumbent MLC only because of their performance. It is true that Shetty did not want to contest the polls, but the point is that both the party leaders as well as the party workers want him to contest and he has budged to the request,” said Sorake
Udupi MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj, Prathapchandra Shetty among other Congress leaders were present.
It may be recalled that several Congress aspirants for the MLC ticket including leaders Jayaprakash Hegde and Bhujang Shetty filed their nominations on Dec 7 as independent candidate protesting against the party’s decision of fielding Shetty as candidate for MLC polls.
