Udupi: Water from wells polluted due to breach of drainage tube in City is causing lot of health problem among people of the area.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Sharada Kalyana Mantapa where the water from the clean drinking water well got polluted and the residents of the surrounding area fell ill. The locals complained that the situation was a result of the road work.
During the work on the road connecting Sharada Kalyana Mantapa to Beedinagudde, the concrete road was dug up through JCB machines.
The drainage pipes broke during digging. As a result, waste water has entered the wells of the houses in the vicinity, polluting the fresh water.
The residents here have consumed well water, vomited and fallen ill. The situation is likely to worsen further in the future.
Social worker Nithyananda Volakadu demanded that the Health Department Officials should immediately visit the spot and take appropriate action.
