Udupi: The fishing boat “Sri Girija,” owned by Uchila resident Vimala C. Puthran, capsized on the morning of Monday December 12, resulting in a loss of over Rs. 7 lakh.

According to sources, seven fishermen had set out for fishing in the morning.

The high tides brought on by Cyclone Mandous tossed the fishing boat as it was sailing in the sea. The fishermen were tossed into the sea.

Fortunately, the fishermen from other boats were able to rescue all seven.

As per the reports, the engine and fishing gear, however, were not able to be recovered and the boat was also damaged.

According to the boat owner’s complaint to the Padubidri Police, the estimated cost of the damages is Rs. 6.50 lakh.

Legislator Lalaji Mendon visited the spot and assured of releasing the compensation amount.
