Udupi: House burglars held, jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh seized

Udupi: The police have arrested notorious inter-state thieves, who were involved in house theft cases.

The arrested have been identified as Dilip Shetty of Shivapura, Hebri Taluk, Shanmugam, and Rajan, both residents of Tamil Nadu.

Under the order from Vishnuvardhan, District Superintendent of Police, in order to prevent crimes, a special police team formed in Brahmavar Police Circle limits headed by Brahmavar Circle Inspector Anantha Padmanabha stopped on suspicion a Santro car at Shediguli, Havanje Village on July 29. During the inspection of the car, police found an iron rod that is used to break house doors and also silver jewellery in the car.

Shanmugam alias Dilip Shetty, Shivapura, Hebri used to come from Bengaluru with notorious thief Rajan, Kutty Vijayan and Sajita Varghese in a Santro car and an Omni and carried out house theft in Hassan, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi areas.

Rajan has been stealing since the age of 19 and has house burglary cases registered against him in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There are cases registered against him in Chikkamagaluru, Kumta, Surathkal in Karnataka, Tirudur, Pattambi, and Tharoor in Kerala, and Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. A total of 22 cases have been registered against Rajan in Udupi District and he is being held without bail for eight weeks in various stations.

Dilip Shetty has earlier been booked in Arsikere in Hassan, RMC Yard in Bengaluru, Layout in Nandini and Nagamangala in Mandya for extortion, excise, honey-trap cases, while assault case in Hebri Police Station.

When Dilip Shetty and Rajan were interrogated, it was learnt that theft of property and gold jewellery had been committed in 2 night theft cases in Brahmavar Police Station limits, 1 night house theft in Karkala Rural Police Station area and 2 night house theft cases in Ajekaru Police Station area. The goods stolen by the thieves stashed in Bengaluru and Coimbatore have been seized. From Dilip Shetty and Rajan, gold jewellery worth around Rs. 13 lakh, 500 grams silver jewellery worth Rs. 20,000, a Santro car worth Rs. 5 lakh, an Omni car worth Rs. 2 lakh and assets worth around Rs. 20 lakh were seized and 5 cases of house theft were solved.
