Udupi: A court here found a man guilty of murder that happened five years ago and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Prashant alias Pacchu alias Mani (31), a 31-resident of Arur, was found guilty of the crimes alleged against him in the case by Principal District and Sessions Judge Shantaveera Shivappa. Prashant received a life sentence and a Rs. 50,000 rupee fine.
According to sources, Prashant was accused of killing his friend over a trivial matter at Petri, Cherkadi village of Brahmavar Taluk. The complaint stated that Prashant asked his friend Prakash Naik for money on March 1, 2017. When Prakash refused, Prashant became enraged and stabbed him with a knife.
After reviewing the evidence given and the eyewitness examination, the court pronounced its verdict, convicting Prashant of the offence.
The accused received two sentences: a life sentence for murder and a fine of Rs. 50,000; and a 3-year sentence and a fine of Rs. 10,000 under the ST Atrocities Act.
