Udupi: With the onset of monsoon and the commencement of the academic year 2023-24, KSRTC should run buses on the stalled routes in view of the proper transport system to open to students to schools and colleges. MLA Yashpal A. Suvarna has instructed to list out the routes where buses are required in 35 wards of the Municipal Corporation and provide additional bus services.

He was speaking after presiding over a pre-monsoon preparatory meeting with officials of various departments at The Sathyamurthy Memorial Hall in Udupi City Corporation on Monday June 5.

In 2019-20, Udupi city had received the permission of 20 NORM buses and 12 buses were operating due to COVID. The officials informed the meeting that 17 buses are operating in the year 2022-23.
MLA Yashpal A. Suvarna said that there is a demand from the public to run NORM buses on some routes including Ambalapady to Malpeghi, Manipal Perampalli Trinity to Havanje. So bring back 3 pre-Covid buses to Udupi. If there is a demand for additional buses, we will make a list and discuss with the higher authorities and take appropriate action,” he said.

With the onset of the rainy season, the stray dogs become more and more prevalent. Animal husbandry and municipal authorities should wake up and take action before attacking the public, including children. He also suggested that the public should not be disturbed by stray dogs in any part of the country, including the rural areas.
“In the last one month, we have sterilised 256 dogs in collaboration with the animal husbandry department and taken proper care of them. We have vaccinated 209 dogs with rabies vaccination.
Since we do not have proper care centres, treating dogs during the rainy season is not advisable from the point of view of dog’s health. It takes 7-8 days for the wound to heal. The doctors informed the meeting that the injury would get bigger due to rainwater.
