Udupi: Scientist Sandhya from the Mining and Geology Department held raids at an illegal sand den in Shankernarayana and seized two tipper lorries that were loaded with sand on Tuesday December 20.
According to sources, senior departmental geologist Sandeep G. U. guided the raid. Amid the raid, the illegal sand miners fled.
Investigations revealed that several private people had allowed the illegal transport of sand through their patta land. According to department officials, action will be taken against those landowners, and any boats used for mining will be seized.
The officials have registered a case and handed over to the Shankernarayana police station two tippers and 20 tonnes of sand for further action.
