Udupi: A case related to the suicide of a labourer, registered two months ago at Karkala City Police Station, has taken a new turn. Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife, a case has been registered against the three at Karkala Town Police Station.
Gopinathan Nair lived and worked as a rubber plantation worker at the rubber plantation of R. Vivekananda Shenoy and Dileep. As his body was found in a burnt state, a case of suicide was registered at the City Police Station in this regard.
Sudha K. S., wife of the deceased has lodged a complaint with the Police against Vivekananda Shenoy and Dilip G. alleging that the accused were not paying her husband’s salary properly. They used to trouble him without giving leave when necessary. They threatened to kill him if he left the job, she alleged.
Whenever she called her husband, he told her that he would leave the job. Fearing this, he sent voice messages and sent 2 to 3 mobile numbers, which he saved on his mobile phone and told her to inform the police about these numbers if she did not receive the phone call in the evening.
Further she said in the complaint, “On October 19, Dileep called me and told me that my husband was missing and that I should send his Aadhaar Card to lodge a missing complaint and later said that my husband had committed suicide.
When the son came and saw that his father’s body was found burnt in the estate, he came to know that he had died in a burnt condition. The complaint stated that the the man in no way to resort to suicide by pouring petrol on him in a cruel manner and the accused, along with a man with a criminal background, tortured her husband and abetted him to commit suicide.
